The team also found that triclosan had profound impacts on the growth of the liver tumor. Mice with liver tumors that were exposed to triclosan showed a profound increase in the size, frequency and multiplicity of the tumor compared to unexposed mice.
Tumor growth is one of the many concerns surrounding triclosan. The chemical agent is also under fire for other adverse health effects, such as its impact on muscle function and skeletal muscle contractions. A previous UC study reported that triclosan exposure reduced cardiac function by up to 25 percent.
